News broke today that want-away striker Luciano Becchio has seen an emotional return to Leeds blocked by Chris Hughton as McDermott turns his attention to the Arsenal production line to bolster his squad.
McDermott said today that. “I made an enquiry to Chris Hughton regarding Luciano Becchio and he wasn't available. Will it change? Who knows? Things do.
“I made an enquiry for a couple of young players at Arsenal as well - Gnabry who scored their first goal on Saturday was one of them. I wouldn't think they will let him out now.
“It’s a tricky situation because Premier League clubs can’t just go out and loan anyone – they want better players too if they are strengthening - so they don’t want to be left short in their own squads.”
Gnabry who started against Swansea put in a good performance and his opening goal was well taken. The other youngsters he enquired about are a mystery. However, other possible names could be German duo Gedion Zezalem and Thomas Eisfeld, who like Gnabry are both German attacking midfielders currently at the Emirates.
With pressure growing on the board to finance new signings, it remains to be seen who will be brought in. At least we know this time around we have a manager who will appreciate young talent rather than Neil Warnock and Ross Barkley.
