Leeds have today confirmed that McDermott has offered a deal until the end of the season to Lithuanian international Marius Zaliukas and an agreement is said to be close.
Today, McDermott said, “We’ve talked about a contract until the end of the season,”
“We’re pretty close in negotiations and will hopefully get things done.“He’s experienced and he plays for his country. He’s a good type of person, he’s competitive, he’s tough and he’s a good age.”
Zaliukas Radebe is to add to the pool of professional centre backs at the club as McDermott pursues his back three formation and Zaliukas will provide cover and competion in those centre back berths. However, that's not to say he will just be a squad player and he was rated very highly at Hearts where he made over 200 appearances and it is rumoured that Manchester United sent scouts to watch him. This season, he has not played a competitive club match, but has played reserve games for both Leeds and QPR, with a deal offered by Harry Redkanpp which was subsequently turned down. Zaliukas' only meaningful outings have come in the yellow of Lithuania, where he recently marked Edin Dzeko in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
