In the latter stages of the 2008/09 season, Sam Sodje played eight games for the club as we needed defensive cover. Now Sodje is at the centre of a match fixing scandal where it transpires that he fixed events in a number of League 1 and Championship matches. The 'fix' was often based on Sodje picking up a yellow card (he received one whilst at Leeds), however it was more extreme than that on occasion, as was seen last season when Sodje got himself sent off for inexplicably punching Jose Baxter in the crotch last season. If he didn't fix a match whilst playing for Leeds, it is likely that he may have fixed a game in which Leeds were participating in, with other members of the wide ranging Sodje family in on the fixing, including his brother and Tranmere striker Akpo Sodje.
This is not the first time that Leeds have been involved in a match fixing scandal and those of you who are old enough will remember the 1973 Cup Wninner's Cup final, in which it is widely reported that AC Milan bribed Greek referee Christos Michas. The local Greeks were so incensed that they repeatedly chanted 'shame ' in the direction of the referee and Milan's lap of honour was cut short after a barrage of missiles flew at them. Michas was banned by UEFA, but the result was never overturned.
