Another must win game for Leeds United and another in which we failed to seize the points on offer.
In this game we started brightly and for the opening half hour, it was looking all set to be our best performance of the season as the woodwork was hit and Ipswich cleared a number of shots off the line with Leeds dominating the early proceedings. In typical Leeds fashion, we decided to shoot ourselves in the foot as Tom Lees was harshly sent off after a foul on Jay Tabb. A team who looked awful and a fanbase who were on their teams back from the kick off, were immediately rejuvenated. Ipswich suddenly ran at Leeds, causing our back line an all manner of problems. Jay Tabb again broke through after slack play from Paul Green and appeared to have been brought down yet the referee waved play on. On the sideline, Neil Warnock was hoping to go in to half time level, but his hopes were dashed as McGoldrick had a tap in after a header bounced off the bar.
The second half started in the worst possible fashion as McGoldrick quickly added another to double Ipswich's lead. However, Leeds still created chances and Steve Morison was particularly guilty as he spurned a number of chances. Jay Emmanuel Thomas then added a third as Leeds again failed to put a wholly incompetent team to the sword.
The most interesting thing was Warnock's post match comments. Tom Lees, a player who has been consistently one of our best was slated for a challenge which tions of reaching thewasn't a red card. When Becchio misfired his 'head was turned' and he was 'poor' yet when Steve Morison misses at least four clear cut chances 'you can't score them all'. His unwillingness to criticise any of 'his' players is one thing which consistently annoys me and his constant 'can't fault the lads' is getting boring. If you can't fault the lads after losing 3-0 against a fairly average team then you can't have aspirations of reaching the play offs.
With McDermott interested in the Leeds job, then a negative result against Derby could (hopefully) cost Warnock his job.
